Introducing… Japan Week!

August 9, 2024

We’re back and better than ever with an extended celebration of all things Japanese covering the capital for this year’s event - our first ever “Japan Week”.

As with previous years, Japan Festival Wellington will have a Festival Day filled with performances and specialist stalls. This year the event takes place on Saturday 14th September at the Michael Fowler Centre. We have a fantastic line-up on stage from tea ceremony, taiko groups and more, as well as yummy Japanese food, art and crafts.

The theme for this year’s festival is Japan x (meets) Wellington - a true 交流 (kōryū, meaning cultural exchange), Which is why after Festival Day we’ll be heading into ‘Japan week’ (14th-22nd September) - where we will be painting the capital in the colours of Japan.

What is Japan Week?

We’ve invited shops across the city to get involved in exploring and showcase Japanese culture with us. Be sure to go out into the city to discover exciting new experiences and goods - it could be little-known Japanese designers featured at your nearest boutique, a specially crafted Japanese-inspired dish at your favourite eatery, or beauty treatments with skincare products from Nippon.

There will be updates about Japan Week here on our website as well as on our social media channels - so make sure to follow our IG & FB!
